nd is the website fr fshbwl up yt?

schooooool

I dont know if this is going to inspire any ideas, but...

What if instead of going to school like we do now, we tell some "institution" what our intentions are, they give us certificates of study, like licenses to pursue different subjects, and then we update them on our progress along the way, and as we research further and become more of an authority in the field(s) of our choice, we are presented different certificates of achievement. Then we could learn and progress as an individual at our own pace. And we wouldnt have to wake up for 8 o'clock classes.... man...

Urban Lessons from Disneyland

“To all who come to this happy place – welcome.” Walt Disney walked up to the podium, and with these words a new world was born.
Once entering the park, one passes under a bridge for the miniature Santa Fe Railroad, where a centrally placed plaque meets every guests' eye with the phrase, “Here you leave Today / And enter the world / Of Yesterday, Tomorrow / And Fantasy”. The effect of this entry sequence is phenomenal, as this passage opens onto a land removed from specific time or place. Yet, Main Street, U.S.A. is filled with recognizable architecture and institutions from years past. This place detaches its guests from reality, creating its own existence in the imaginations of its inhabitants. Most of all, however, it is the separation from the present that has the greatest contribution to the creation of a new reality.
Disneyland was conceived as an alternative to a movie studio as a tourist destination, and in that same instance works nearly the same. The stories that Disney is known for are created with the same basic principles of movie sets – false stages, floats, backdrops, facades, and the combination of timing with the power of illusion. In every corner of this park is the essence of stage presence.
The potential effect of this land was unknown at the time of its inception, but it has had an astonishing influence in the world of architecture and urban planning. Malls, communities, even entire cities are now being planned with the same ideas of narrative that Walt Disney and his team of Imagineers employed in the design of this fantasyland.

++woop. ... .. . woop===

Well all, I think peeps should be all about this thing and post like crazy so we can do all sorts of stuff here. The two people who made the articles on friday need to post them so we will hope to see them up soon, so if you read this bug them to put it up until they do, then say yeah woooh good job.

Oh and even if it isn't articles, we should all be posting what we are doing for FISHBOWL at all times. Like next time, if there is a shop cafe esque project, it will be up here for all to know as well as emails i hope. At the same time, we want more ideas for things like that here too.

Any sort of idea at all people. Post it up and we can talk it over and stuff.

So pretty much post or die
figuratively that is
in the mind

DANA is still here

We will be unleashing DANA to the school coming this Monday

In rememberance of Dana Smith, who is leaving USC for his own architectural pursuits, we will be posting his face just about everywhere. He was one of our school's most valued staff and should be remembered because whether or not you knew him, he most definitely had a gigantic influence on you through the school.

We have a file of his face and will be printing them out in various sizes for distribution, wearing, and pasting on the walls. We were hoping to have some large plots to post up, masks which we could wear around, and small faces to put on everyone's desk and teacher's mailboxes.

We will all have to pull together to make this possible without spending money. I will distribute the file through email and we can all print out 50 or so small ones and a mask for yourself and maybe another mask to give to someone else. We can use clipper for plotting the larger ones. Since monday will be the first day without him, I feel this is a great time to show our support.

We will also be having a documentation team to start our records of our acts in and around the school. Giving as how this is the first of many, lets do it with style and a good attitude.

As well as all of the printouts, we will place a small blurb on the back of the prints and on the large plots saying we will all meet at a certain time, probably after studio monday to gather with prints and masks in rememberance of Dana. Hopefully we will gather a large group and take some amazing pictures for us, as well as to send to Dana to show our support.

If there are more ideas or questions, send them to milholla@usc.edu

Sweeet!!!

I think this is a great idea. Lets set a time for anyone who wants to be involved in the planning of this event to get together. A more dynamic space could be great for more than just two artists, ie...if we can collaborate with that tshirt design collective. BTW, can someone post the link to their website...please=)

So for our Delirious Hour...

I know how we were all toying with the idea of 'graffiti/painting' cubes on which artists would create and display their work in the main courtyard. I just came across these images of the Designersblock opening party in London. What if we have varying shapes of cubes to make the courtyard more dynamic and visually exciting. Also it will give the artists an opportunity to choose their favorite "cubes."

Painting Party

So this idea starts as many do...... at a party. It was a party I was having. Before too many people showed up, I decided it would be a good idea to make a painting with some of my friends. We went ahead and started painting a normal abstraction of whatever our brushes and unconscious minds wanted. When we were done, we left it up for others to view, as well as to let it dry.

The party proceeded, and beers were drunk, cigarettes were smoked, and generally the normal array of crazy happenings, conversations, and debauchary ensued. After a while, I proceeded outside to find the paints had once again been brought out and painting had proceeded. Now handprints could be found on the canvas, on people's bodies dispersed throughout the party, and even a bit on the columns of my house. The painting was now moving around, smeared over the original painting, and even becoming part of the architecture.

The party continued, and I even became the owner of a handprint of my face, while putting my mark an many another person. As many a night does, it became a blur of good times and yelling. I awake the next morning with paint in my hair and a bit of a headache.

The painting I found, was at first glance unrecognizable, but as I took a closer look, I realized it held more than I could imagine. It held the entire night in its vicious strokes and colors. Handprints and drinks spilled on it, words and smears bring back specific images of the night before. To put it literally, the painting both on the canvas, the house, and even myself had become the story of the night. The night had become the author of a story in acrylics.

the beginning

so i hope this is the beginning of something that gets used more than i can imagine

i can invision this as a spot in which we can post ideas and get feedback from eachother on it from the safety of our seats (clothing optional but not recommended). if you don't like talking in meetings, you can write all your thoughts here. where we can post what we are doing individually for fishbowl so that we all see the activity going on. you will see all the meetings, how the budget is going, nobody would ever be out of the loop again.

this paired up with google calendar which i hope you are all using will let us always be in tune with our other fishbowlers and lets all our ideas become one mega.awesome.killer.gnar.gnar. idea that we share with others

so in summation post away and on anything you want so that we can all know what you're thinking (big brother is watching)
